subject: Music sites: Midi Music great sounds
I guess not everyone likes Midi music, but I do.
First download and open Crescendo to take advantage of the good sounds .... what are
you waiting for, go buy some good external speakers, some with quality ... they are not
going to wear out are they ... I guess that depends on how loud you play them.
When you play any of the pieces from the web it will then be on your hard
drive in the Windows/Temp/Internet temp directory ....no problem. Just erase the
ones you don't want. If you are short of disk space then copy the others to
floppies. You can create a Music folder and keep a collection of all your music
files and play them anytime you like by double clicking on the icon. You can
use them later ... attach them to Norton's Disk Doctor .... let the music play while your
computer works for you.

subject: Now, where did I see that on the web?
So you lost the address to that web site you liked and forgot to mark it as a favorite
huh?
Well, go to Explorer and look in Windows/internet temporary/ folder and you will probably
find it there along with all the other stuff you been accessing on the web ... you didn't
know you were leaving tracks(a history) of your surfing did you? When you find it
just double click on it and next time select it as a favorite.
subject: An entertaining startup
Select the music site on the web and make notes on your favorite midi pieces. Write
down the name of the music piece and the file name ... especially the file name.
Such as RAZARA.MID or demo0013.mid two real interesting choices you will
recognize as you play them. After you listen to them, they are then on your
hard drive.
Next go to My Computer icon and build a new folder on drive C and name it Music.
Close My Computer and go to your Explorer. Use Explorer to move all mid
(midi) files to your new Music folder. You can make you startup on Win95 a bit more
interesting if not challenging. If you have Norton's Utilities for Win95, put
Norton's in your startup folder. Make it one of your startup programs.
Through Norton's Utilities select one of the midi files to play as Norton's
checks your drive. Read you Norton's Help feature about selecting sounds.
Don't call me dude, I don't do free tutoring either (except for what little
you can glean from this feature). I am in the computer consulting
business so I do charge for my services. These notes are so good though you won't
need any help will you? :-)
Subject: Speaking of sound
You have external speakers, right. You should be hearing a loud ring through your
external speakers when your mail arrives. If you are not hearing any sound (and want
to) then check the following:
(1) See that the speakers are plugged in to the proper place in the back of the
sound card.
(2) Speakers have to be turned on at the speakers on some units. Some have more than
one
switch.
Especially those that use batteries. Don't do like me and forget to turn off
any
battery
powered ones when you are through using them. The next day you will have to buy
another set. I guess batteries
are getting more difficult to build, their prices seem to go up
real often.
(3) In Win95 click on the volume icon on the task bar, set the volume at about 1/2
to 2/3 setting if you want to hear for
some distance.
(4) Go to My Computer icon, select Control folder, select Sound icon, scroll
down and look to see if a sound is
selected for incoming mail. If it is set on none then pick the sound you want
to hear.
(5) Keep you e-mail box open but minimized and you should hear any incoming mail
even when away from your
computer or while surfing, word-processing, etc.
(6) If you are using Win 3.x, go figure. You will have to tell me.
