"Web sites and tips"  is a new feature of the Eastland Internet service and
will appear in your mail box from time to time.  We hope you will be able
to use some of the information presented.  This information may be
basic to some of you and seem difficult to others.   Some tips
may be repeated ... may be repeated.... may be repeated...but we have new customers signing on for service everyday .

Taskbar needs to be seen:
Win95 users

Make adjustments to the bottom of your e-mail screen so you can have the
full length of the e-mail screen and still see the task bar.  It is much
more interesting when you can see the names of programs you have active.
Then just with a click you can switch from one to the other.  Even without
minimizing the current screen.

Bookmarking a location:

Just double-click on any address included
in email to go to the location on the WWW,  then if you like the page just
click on the favorites button to bookmark the location.

E-Mail settings:

Set your email to check your mail about every three minutes.  Keep your
e-mail box open but minimized on your task bar.  If you have your Win95
volume turned on and set at about medium setting you will be sure to hear your
email as it comes in.   You can be working on other projects and still have
your computer checking for new email every three minutes.

Write E-Mail in wordprocesser:

E-mail can be written with any wordprocessor and then attached to you e-mail
with the paperclip button.  Just remember though,  that an attached file
can only be read by the same wordprocessing software at the receiving end.
Well, there might be exceptions where it will open in wordpad.....

Some have asked if you can save important email as you work on it.  There
are several ways to save email that is incomplete and you want to complete
it later.  Three ways for now:

(1) Click the close (x) in the upper right corner of the email screen and
it will  ask you if you want to save it.

(2) Highlight the lines you want to save from any email and copy to clip
board.   Then paste into favorite wordprocessor and save as a file.

(3) Save you e-mail by deleting it.  What did he say?
Copy into any of the other boxes such as deleted box, or sent box (just
remember  where you put it and move it back to inbox if you ever need it
again.)    Or just copy from deleted box mail to clipboard,  then back to new message in the inbox.

Interested in how things fly?

Well if you have Win95 just click on
on this address:

Care about the Hubble Telescope and photographs of objects in deep space:

You can copy these to use them as wallpaper.... just click right button after you get to the photos

Have you found any interesting sites or addresses to access on the WWW?

Just use the search button and type in key words:

Have you tried a search for NASA?  Universities?  Oxford?  Tarleton?   (When you find a web site you like, select it as a favorite.) Hubble Telescope? Children's software?  genealogy?
Try clicking on Art on the front page and following some of those links to
other countries?

Of course, you can also find a lot of weird stuff on the web.  If you are a teacher,  ask  your regional  educational technology  person for software to limit sites that can be accessed in the
classroom.

Remember, keeping your password secret and your supervision are your main
controls to what can be viewed on the web.  Don't give out your password!!

Many customers have asked me about a guide book for the Internet Explorer
Browser.

Yes,  there are several books you may find or order from your favorite book
store...
the least expensive of the choices is Internet Explorer 3 for Windows for
Dummies  by Doug Lowe published by IDG BOOKS worldwide about $20,   they
also have cheat sheets for about $2.95 each (ask for Item 0031-7).   For
more information about IDG Books call 1-800-762-2974.

If your book store doesn't have this book ... have them to order it or the
book by Que... about $40+tax.

So you can't read weather radars either?

Ok then,  check this address to find definitions, symbols and other Q&A
about NEXRAD.  Good page for science teachers to get some hardcopy about weather info...

Hey,  pay attention Win 3.X users,  I know it's hard to switch over to Win95 and get away from what you are accustomed to using.....get over your love for Win 3.X......trade in that old clunker computer and go into Bryan's Computers or someplace and make a trade.  I don't think you will ever regret you upgraded to Win95.   Oh, you will miss it for a couple of days.  But get this, with Win95, you can be e-mailing a long letter with a 6 Mb file, formatting and copying disks, listening to that favorite CD and who knows what else at the same time.    When you go into Bryan's though be sure and holler "Hey dudes, what's going on...Cowboy Jerry said to come in and buy something. "  The  computer dudes and computer nerds will fix you right up. :-)   No, they didn't tell me to advertise but I did it anyway.
